What is Ready to Work:

Ready to Work is a program offered by the City of San Antonio Office of Economic Development.  It was designed to help San Antonio residents gain educational skills, plan their careers, and receive a wide range of resources to help them get a good-paying job in an in-demand occupation.

The program offers:

 Access to high quality training programs
• Tuition Assistance

• Computer to support you academically
• Guidance on Career Planning
• Assistance with urgent needs
• Preparation support to help you to

  gain a great job!

Who is eligible for Ready to Work?  


• Age: At least 18 years of age

• Residence: Within the San Antonio City Limits

• Work Status: Permitted to work in the United States

• Household income: No more than 250% of the  federal poverty guidelines. (Currently less than $36,450 for an individual or $75,000 for a household of four)

• Commitment: Willing to train and succeed in a career

• Not currently enrolled in college courses at intake

• Willing to take assessments relating to barriers, academics, skills aptitude, and
  workplace readiness

• Committed to completing the program

U.S. Career Institute is Accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission. The Distance Education Accrediting Commission is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a recognized accrediting agency.

When can I begin my program?

Online Career Training

We offer flexible, quality distance education at our Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) accredited school.

Self-paced courses allow you to learn according to your schedule. Plus, you have the support of a full staff, from instructors to student service success advisors. We’re here to help you succeed in your education and to achieve your career goals.

Prepare for a new career in as little as four months.

Visit the City of San Antonio’s Ready to Work website located at:  www.readytoworksa.com and submit your application.  Once submitted, you may wish to also visit a Ready to Work Partner Agency to begin the eligibility process. 

Ready to Work requirements are listed above and include:  at least 18 years of age, resident of the City of San Antonio, permitted to work in the U.S., meet the household income requirements and commitment to train for a career.

Once you have submitted your application to www.readytoworksa.com you will be contacted by an agency from the Ready to Work Program.  You will go through the eligibility, assessment, and approval process.   Once approved you will work with USCI’s Workforce Team to enroll in your preferred program.

The Phlebotomy Technician program is offered fully online and does not include the live skills practice (experience) opportunities required to obtain certification as a phlebotomist, which most employers require. Students are responsible for researching certification and/or licensure requirements and securing appropriate experience opportunities.
